Northwest Indiana Hospital Designated as Heart Care Center Second in Indiana

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has designated Northwest Health – Porter as a HeartCARE Center of excellence, only the second hospital in Indiana to receive this honor. ACC bestows this designation on hospitals for their ongoing commitment to comprehensive, high-quality culture and cardiovascular care. Northwest Health – Porter was awarded the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence in July based on meeting accreditation criteria, and through their ongoing performance registry reporting.
Hospitals and health systems that have earned an ACC HeartCARE Center designation have met a set of criteria, including participating in at least two ACC Accreditation services programs, NCDR registries and targeted quality improvement campaigns, such as Patient Navigator Programs that are designed to help hospitals and institutions close gaps in guideline-based care.
“Northwest Health – Porter has long had some of the state’s best cardiologists and care teams as evidenced by their scope of care and patient outcomes.” said James Leonard, D.O., chief executive officer at the hospital. “For years they have consistently used research-based protocol and brought new procedures and guidelines to the region. I’m proud of their efforts and this well-deserved HeartCare Center designation.”
The hospital has previously been designated a Chest Pain Center, and received certification for transcatheter valve, and chest pain center with PCI from the ACC Accreditation Services.

Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Northwest Health – Porter with the HeartCARECenter designation.”
