Northwest Health Offers Free Seminar on Staying Strong with Good Balance
9/5/2025
Falls are one of the leading health risks as people age, with more than one in four people age 65 and older losing balance and falling each year, according to the National Institute on Aging. The risk of falling increases with age, yet many falls can be prevented.
Northwest Health – La Porte will offer a one-hour community seminar called, “Stay Steady, Stay Strong with Good Balance,” for individuals who are looking to stay active, protect their independence or simply feel steadier on their feet. The free seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Sept. 18, 2025, at Northwest Health – La Porte, Pine Lake Conference Room, 1331 State St., La Porte.
During the seminar, Bob Lee, physical therapist with Northwest Health – La Porte, will discuss:
- Eye-opening statistics about falls and aging
- How balance is tested and how it’s improved
- Simple balance and strengthening exercises, with demonstrations
- When to see a doctor
There will be time for questions at the end of the seminar, which is part of the Northwest Health HealthyU series, a wellness program that provides free seminars on various health and wellness topics for the community.
“Improving your balance isn’t only about preventing falls,” Lee said. “It’s also about gaining confidence with every step so you can keep doing the things you enjoy.”
