Porter Regional Hospital Offers Support Groups in August

VALPARAISO, IN (July 6, 2016) - Porter Regional Hospital will offer the following monthly support groups in August:

• Breast Cancer Support Group – Hope & Healing
  Porter Regional Hospital offers Hope & Healing, a support group for people coping with breast cancer, whether newly diagnosed or a long-term survivor. The group offers emotional support, information, education, and guest speakers. It also provides the opportunity for individuals to share their unique concerns and feelings brought on by breast cancer. The Hope & Healing Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 2 at Fagen Pharmacy, 3400 N. Calumet Ave., Valparaiso. For more information, contact Porter’s Patient Navigator at 219-983-6128.

• Breastfeeding Support Group
  For many new moms, breastfeeding isn’t easy, which is why we want to provide our moms with every tool they need to be successful. Led by a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, our support group will provide breastfeeding moms with expert advice, counseling and mom-to-mom support. Children are welcome. The group meets the last Monday of each month. The next meeting is 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, August 29 in the Women & Children’s Pavilion classroom at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso. No registration is necessary. • Lung Cancer Support Group
  If you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group to provide a safe and open environment to share your experiences and struggles, and connect you with local and national resources to aid during your time of need. The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month and is open to anyone affected by lung cancer, including survivors, family members, friends and caregivers. The next meeting will be from 11 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, August 3 at Fagen Pharmacy, 3400 N. Calumet Ave., Valparaiso. No registration is necessary. • Ostomy Support Group
  Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group for ostomy patients. The group helps patients learn from others, share concerns and talk with one of the hospital’s certified wound ostomy and continence nurses. The group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 25 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso. • Stroke Survivor Support Group
  Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group for stroke survivors, their caregivers, family members and loved ones. The monthly gathering offers an environment to share experiences and struggles, as well as connect with other survivors and local resources. The next meeting will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, August 25 at the Duneland Family YMCA at 215 Roosevelt St. in Chesterton. For more information, call 219-983-8355.
