Porter Physician Group welcomes new medical oncologist

Valparaiso, Ind. – A new medical oncologist in Valparaiso is focused on providing compassionate care to patients while staying abreast of the latest available treatments. Tareq Braik, M.D., who specializes in oncology and hematology, has devoted his medical career to learning all he can about the biology of cancer and blood diseases.

“The face of human struggle in cancer patients and the passionate attitude – combined with a scientific approach – is what attracted me to the field of hematology and oncology,” Dr. Braik said. He is accepting new patients at his office in the Porter Medical Plaza, 85 E. US Highway 6, Valparaiso.

After receiving his medical degree from University of Baghdad, Dr. Braik completed a residency in internal medicine and medical oncology at the Clatterbridge Center for Oncology in Wirral, England. He then continued with an internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago. Dr. Braik is board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine. He treats all types of cancers, but takes a special interest in breast, lung, gastroenterology, and prostate cancers. Most recently, Dr. Braik presented a research poster on recent trends in breast cancer treatment at the American Society of Clinical Oncologists annual conference in Chicago.

“The advancement in cancer research has accelerated to an amazing degree over the last 10 years, and we have witnessed a new era of cancer therapeutics that have changed our understanding and approach to treating cancer. I strive to work hard and apply my experience and understanding of these new developments directly to patient care.”
