Students Learn Home Alone Safety & More
Northwest Health - La Porte has opened registration for its Safe Sitter® course on July 22. The course is for students in grades 6-8 who are, or will be, baby sitters. The class will be offered at the hospital which is located at 1331 State Street in La Porte, in the Pine Lake Conference Room.
More than 775,000 young teens have graduated from the medically-accurate Safe Sitter® program which teaches how, why, and where injuries happen so they can be prevented. The course provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques to young teens that are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting so they are equipped with the skills and confidence to act in an emergency. They learn basic first aid, infant and child choking rescue and CPR. Students also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior, and how to run their own babysitting business.
When: July 22, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Northwest Health – La Porte, 1331 State Street, La Porte, IN
Students who graduate from a Safe Sitter® course receive a Safe Sitter Kit, and a completion card demonstrating that they know how to use their skills in situations they encounter.
