Demotte Physicians welcomes Family Nurse Practitioner

VALPARAISO, IN (October 25, 2016) - DeMotte Physicians, a Porter Physician Group practice, is pleased to welcome Keri Smith, MSN, FNP, back to the community. She is a DeMotte native.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Purdue University North Central, Smith attended Purdue University Calumet, where she earned her Masters of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“I love being a nurse, but I always knew I wanted to do a little more to help my patients,” Smith said. “Being a nurse practitioner allows me to offer patients more individualized care and lets me fulfill my calling in life. I strive to provide my patients with individualized attention and care for their needs.”
As a family nurse practitioner, Smith cares for just about any family illness requiring medical attention, and also enjoys providing wellness checks and annual physicals as well. Nurse practitioners are able to prescribe medicine.
Smith began her career working in the emergency department of an area hospital, before moving to roles such as assistant director of a long-term care facility, a patient care coordinator and charge nurse in a pre-operative/post-anesthesia care unit. “Every area I have worked in has helped mold me into the nurse I am today.”
Smith grew up in Demotte and is eager to care for the community. “My philosophy of care is to deliver accepting, holistic, safe patient-centered care. I want to help my community become healthier one patient at a time.”
